What CliftonStrengths actually measures

CliftonStrengths (from Gallup) ranks 34 talent themes for how naturally they show up in how you think, work, and make decisions. It's not a personality quiz with vague labels — it's a rank order. Your top 5 aren't "your best qualities," they're the patterns that run with the least effort and the most consistency, whether you're aware of them or not.

Mine, in order: Command, Strategic, Arranger, Self-Assurance, Discipline.

What the top 5 actually mean in practice

My Top 5 — What Each One Looks Like in the Work
Command — I state what's wrong and what to do about it directly. I don't dress it up first.
Direct feedback
Strategic — I spot the pattern behind a problem faster than I can always explain how.
Fast diagnosis
Arranger — Give me a messy account and I'll reorganize it into something that actually works.
Organizes chaos
Self-Assurance — I don't need you to validate the recommendation before I'll say it with confidence.
No hedging
Discipline — I want a checklist, a process, and a repeatable structure — not a vibe.
Systems, not guesswork

The rest of my top 10 — Communication, Maximizer, Adaptability, Relator, Responsibility — backs the same profile up. Gallup groups all 34 themes into four domains: Executing, Influencing, Relationship Building, and Strategic Thinking. My results lead hard with Influencing, backed by Executing. Relationship Building doesn't show up until #9. Strategic Thinking barely registers past Strategic itself.

What that means if you're a client

I'm not going to be the warm, hand-holding type who eases you into bad news over three paragraphs. If your Meta setup has a real problem, I'll tell you what it is, why it happened, and what to do about it — in that order, without cushioning it first. If I recommend against something you want to do, I'll say so plainly instead of talking around it.

That's not a lack of empathy. It's that decisiveness and directness are the actual strengths here — softening them wouldn't make me more helpful, it would just make the feedback slower to land. Clients who want a second opinion that isn't afraid to disagree with their agency, their developer, or their own assumptions tend to be the ones who get the most out of working with me.

The honest tradeoff: if you're looking for someone to sit with you in the frustration of a Meta restriction before getting to the fix, that's not where I'm strongest. If you want the fix named fast and clearly, that's exactly where this profile is built for.

Curious what your own top strengths are?

I didn't build this insight myself — it came from taking the actual CliftonStrengths assessment. If you want to find your own top themes and understand how they show up in how you work (or how you run your business), Strengths Connection is where I'd point you to get started — they do the assessment plus coaching on what to actually do with the results.
